REVIEW - Idle Eyes “Keep Me For Yourself”
Get ready to scream every last remaining piece of angst out of your soul because Perths Idle Eyes are back baby!
With five tracks of some of the purest emotion you will find in the modern world of heavy music, Idle Eyes are about to prove, once again, that they are one of Perths absolute best this Friday, September 2nd, when they drop their new EP “Keep Me For Yourself”.
From the very first note of the first track ‘Parasite’, this EP will pull you in and hold you closely until the very end with every song so well written, structured and executed, Idle Eyes have clearly found their own distinct sound to take them forward and personally I’m loving it.
There is so many unique, soaring melodies all throughout this EP that will stick in your mind, held together with riffs reminiscent of the likes of Defeater and More Than Life, and bass lines stronger than King Shahil himself. Trust me when I say listen to this front to back, on repeat, loud. There is so many little elements that have potential to define this EP as their best work and you don’t want to miss out.
If you know Idle Eyes already, you’ve heard ‘Parasite’ and I don’t need to tell you how much you love it. The second track is ‘Life’s Debt’ and it’s probably the track closest to Idle Eyes original sound on this release. It’s fast, yet still catchy and melodic, it’s raw and emotional while still being perfectly produced.
Track 3 is titled ‘Bury Me’ which brings you back to similar feelings as ‘Parasite’ with rolling drums transitioning into an anthemic hooks. I can already see the pile on that’s going to be happening for this one.
‘Numb Again’ was the second single Idle Eyes released in the lead up to this EP and it was chosen with perfection. This song incorporates so many elements of what make this band what they are. It does such a good job of bringing you back down, just to lift you at that exact right moment.
The last track, and my personal favourite ‘Nothing’ has a slight bit more energy that brings in your focus and holds you there, only to ease off and build it up in a way I can only relate to a band like the older AFI material.
Whether this is your first time listening to Idle Eyes, or if you’re a regular at their shows for the past 9 years, this EP leaves you wanting more, and that’s what a good hardcore band does.
